Can't say enough bad things about this place. Outside it's gorgeous, really beautiful. Inside, however, it's hell on wheels. Filthy, dark, the constant din of a blaring tv and the raised voices of staff bullying patients. I was taken here on a 5150 because I told the nurse at St. Joseph's emergency room that I was under enormous stress, hadn't slept for months, and had lost weight. They strapped me to a gurney and carted me off to HELL: Las Encino. Run by teenage staff who insisted I sign a form promising to pay out of pocket (as I didn't have insurance). When I refused, they threatened me with a longer hold for bring "uncooperative". I never signed. This place is a hole. The law requires patients see a staff doctor within 24 hours of admittance. Well, I waited 36 hours but I convinced the doctor to LET ME OUT. It was "Cuckoo's Nest...". It nearly drove me insane. Filthy rooms, inedible food - if you have food allergies, they will give you a plateful of exactly the thing to which you are allergic.AVOID at all costs.

This is the worst place you can imagine. It needs to get shut down! Please do not send anyone you love to this place. My experience- I meet my roommate and he is on his way out the room. He shakes my hand and tells me to "play the game". Freeky way to start but he was right! I'm still traumatized and its a year later- Freezing Cold Showers with nurses checking in every 5 min- nurses would be laughing as a patient would be hitting his head on the wall repeatedly - A Patient was dancing, so a nurse gave them a shot of thorazine in the butt to knock them out. That patient didn't come out of their room for 3 days after that. When they did come out of their room it was like a scene from a horror movie. The patient was sliding flat on the floor with their back arched up high trying to themselves up, just to ask for water!- A patient got in argument with a nurse. Later when that patient asked for pretzels or anything to eat, the nurse said no, then gave snacks to other patients right in front of her.- I was completely quiet the whole time I was there only answering to what they asked and playing "the game" to get the hell out. One day when I was just sitting there, the nurses looked at me and said "look at that quiet little mouse behaving so well". I couldn't believe it! If I was to speak up I knew from experience from other patients It could get messy with these nurses and you end up with a shot in the butt, they drug you for hours to days sometimes, no phone calls, or even water.- Water is not accessible to patients bc they might try to "drown" themselves. You need to find a nurse when they are ready they will go open up their office and give you a little 2 inch cup filled with water. They get super annoyed if you ask for a refill. (They drug you and then make it impossible to get water! Very frikin twisted)- I had my blood drawn every day for a week. They messed up on something which they never gave me answers about and I had no say in it! My one damn fear is needles. I can do almost anything else but damn they would wake you up at 4am every morning because its the perfect time your body has no food or water and they take a ton of blood. I swear both of my arms the veins were disgusting and you could see a hole on where they kept sticking the needles. They switched arms bc one was done. I'm cringing and laughing writing this. I can't believe it was real.- I was on a 51/50 and the doctor didn't come to see me for the first 3 days because he was busy with his other practice in "Burbank", so I was there for nothing those days until he came. NO JOKE!-The beds were wood with a tiny thin so called mattress, tiny thin blanket and a itty bitty tiny thin pillow in the freezing cold. "NO you may not get extra bankets or pillows". I made it work with my sweatshirt and the towels. - A patient came in and they put her in the patient gown, but it was too small. The patient was ill, so she didn't know whats going on. The gown went down to right below her waist. We could see everything and she would sit on the cold chairs with nothing on and the nurses did nothing! - Food was a joke go and see for yourself what they bring up to the psych ward patients.- an il patient started eating something with the whole wrapper still on and the nurses laughed the whole time! I helped the patient.- You have a very small room for all the patients to hang out in. Cages on the windows.- Every family that came to visit their loved one in this place went crazy on the staff. They couldn't believe the environment, how they are treated, blah blah blah etc. etc.- We went outside once whole week I was there. The "outside" was a cage about 20ft by 15ft and you get 15 minutes-I grew alot there bc I got to help patients but I never got help getting medicated for my bipolar disorder

Before being admitted I read all of these reviews and I was scared to go. The hospital isnt as bad as the reviews make it out to be so I figured Id put in my two cents. Most of the staff were compassionate and helpful. Some of the food was actually good but overall the meals were subpar. The grounds are very beautiful actually. The building is over 100 years old and rich with history. I felt safe there and got the help I needed.

Horrible, absolutely horrible. The staff are careless and don't really care about you're well being, they are only their to get paid. They also hardly let anyone for fresh air breaks. When I asked to if the patients could go outside for a fresh air break at night they said that it's dark and that they "can't see". It was around 8:00 around when I asked, what a lame excuse to not do you're job.The food was and probably still is terrible, it was cold, tasteless, and disgusting. On top of that they hardly have any group exercises to help people deal with their emotions. This place thrives on people who are damaged and emotionally broken and makes money off of them without ever really offering good mental health care. Overall this place should be shut down as it is robbing people of true mental healthcare.

I actually came across this review site looking for the address of this place to make a complaint to the medical board. It partly involves this hospital. I got shoved in there as I stopped the medicine after 15 years, and I am about to keel over and die from it. The side effects are severe and hard to handle. Most of them I don't openly talk about, but I put on 170 pounds on the last 5 years as I couldn't fight the weight gain anymore. I was in the hospital for 9 days here. I wouldn't take the medicine and they couldn't find a reason to make me take it as I was there voluntary apparently, although not exactly accurate, and the longer I was there the more they realized I wasn't going to act out. They just on about day 7 came to me, the third doctor I requested, called me away from the dinner table where I was civilly eating and said if you don't comply with the medicine we will start tranquilizing you daily until you do. I hadn't cried or broken down the whole time I was there, I thought I was making my case. That is what the nurses and group leaders were telling me and writing it down. The social worker even relayed it to my Mum. I took the pills got home and sadly the first weight I had lost in 5 years I put on as I was back on the pills. After cutting the medicine off I lost 12 pounds. I am off it now again and fighting to stop the pressure campaign too make a medical decision I don't want to. I also had other problems in the hospital there. Like my blood pressure was the lowest it had been in years when I came off the medicine 120 top number. Now it sits around 170 if not on blood pressure pills. They watched it go up and up from no exercise and never did anything. I did try to voice my concern without being tranquilized several times, but knew me getting hypertension was not a concern of theirs. Also people are right on here. You have to ask for water. I can understand maybe food as it is a hospital. You shouldn't have to make a joke like I did to ease the nurses moods when thirsty. I thought I was staying reasonably hydrated but when I got out and got access too water, I realized I wasn't. The food is awful, that is kind of the deal with hospitals, which I do accept. The shower water is cold. I am from the UK, and love California. I had several colds a year all my life until California when I moved here 9 years ago. Haven't had one until this hospital visit from cold showers. The worst things I saw sadly weren't things that happened too me at all. I don't want to disclose other peoples medical problems, but I saw a patient in their, youngish lad 20 or so, he was really struggling and could barley say hello. I tried to include him and make him see a reason too live and go to the beach. I am 33 now, when I was his age, I was that patient who just stared at the walls, and while other patients were wary of him, I knew there could be some life after this for him. He was presented legal paperwork to sign. I thought I don't even care what it is about, even if it is for access to food, he needs someone who cares to read that and speak to him properly. They presented me with legal paperwork to sign. They wanted me too sign a document that would put the 900 dollar a day bill on me, not the insurance company. I had no choice to leave or stay, although they kept saying I was voluntary, distinction without a difference. I could really go on and on with many more things. Mostly I just want to say, I am sorry everyone, I am sorry. Mental health is the only part people often see of us, but it is the part I know I care about the least. My only advice is how to for the moment help yourselves, and it is twisted, is don't drink smoke or anything. I am twelve years without a drop of alcohol. I lost whatever twenties I could of had and it really made me sad. It paid off though my plan all those years ago. Now I am fighting to make a medical decision, they tried to get me to say I am a drunk or a drug addict, including trying to lull me into a false sense of security. Take Care
